Getting here from Thornbury
It is the same High Street you already use, about 2.3km further north, on the same train line and the same tram corridor.
- Straight up High Street by car, roughly 10 minutes outside peak
- Thornbury Station to Preston Station is two stops on the Mernda line, via Bell, then about a 500m walk
- Croxton Station, at the southern end of Thornbury, is one stop further back on the same line
- The St Georges Road shared path runs north from Thornbury as far as Murray Road, flat the whole way
- About half an hour on foot, or easy street parking in the surrounding streets
Worth knowing about the trams: the Route 86 comes up High Street from Thornbury but swings onto Plenty Road before it reaches us, so the nearest 86 stop is about a 1km walk. The Route 11 along St Georges Road ends at West Preston on Gilbert Road, also off to the side. From Thornbury, the train is the simple option.
Thornbury has plenty of cafes and very few offices
The High Street strip through Thornbury is food, wine bars, live music and shopfront trades. It is a good strip. What it does not have much of is small flexible office space, so people working for themselves here tend to end up at the kitchen table, in a cafe with headphones on, or signing a full commercial lease for more room than they need.
Two and a bit kilometres north is close enough to still feel local. You can get your coffee in Thornbury and be at your desk ten minutes later.

What is around us at the Preston end
Preston Market is down near the station, so the walk back to the car can pick up the fruit and veg, and Preston City Oval is in the same pocket. If your work touches council, Darebin's municipal offices and the Intercultural Centre are further along High Street and the council's main offices are on Gower Street.
High Street Preston is a working strip rather than a dining strip: everyday shops, banks and a long run of family run food businesses. It is also easier to park in than Thornbury, which matters when someone is driving to meet you.
